Canine Waste Ordinance

Article 1. DUTY TO DISPOSE:

It shall be a violation of this division for any person who owns, possesses or controls a dog to fail to remove and dispose of properly any feces left by their dog on any sidewalk, street, park, or publicly owned property. (06-12-00)

Article 2. EXEMPTION:

This ordinance shall not apply to a dog accompanying any handicapped person who, by reason of their handicap, is physically unable to comply with the requirements of this ordinance. (06-12-00)

Article 3. ENFORCEMENT:

Any designated representative of the Chief of Police may enforce the provisions of this ordinance.

The Maine District Court, Division of Western Aroostook, shall have exclusive jurisdiction for enforcement of this ordinance. (06-12-00)

Article 4. PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION:

Violations of this ordinance shall be punishable by a civil penalty not to exceed fifty dollars ($50.00) for each occurrence.

Fines/penalties collected by the Court shall be payable to the Town of Fort Kent. (06-12-00)
